Mr. Lark's Fabulous AdventureJune 08 Bienvenidos de Cuba I made a whirlwind tour of Havana, Cuba. My first visit to Cuba and my first visit to the Caribbean this century. I didn't see any of the Castro brothers, though I hit most of the tourist sites. There doesn't seem to be a lot going on in Havana...little commerce, almost no traffic, not that many tourists, empty shelves in government stores. Also, lots of old cars, which was pretty cool.
Next trip, this Summer. ![]() ![]() ![]() April 18 Easter, April, 2009, Asia, Indochina I've made another journey to Asia, this time a different destination (so I'll be adding another country onto my list!). The new thing to visit this time was the Kingdom of Cambodia. I'm here in Cambodia for a few more hours.
I was lucky enough to cross Angkor Wat off my list of things to see. I took about 400 pictures of the temple, and I only saw about one half of the things you're supposed. Anyways, I've set up a separate album for the photos, I'll add more as I download more. Every temple was something new...whether bas-reliefs, the ruins of a giant reclining Buddha, towering stone towers, aspara dancers carved into stone or the giant heads at Bakon temple. For my next trip, there still a few places and things left to do there, the Elephant Temple, or the dawn/dusk over the temple itself. Phnom Penh is a pleasant tropical stop too. I visited the usual tourist attractions, plus a stop at the Killing Fields.
I was also lucky enough to make a stop in Beijing, Malaysia and, if the generals allow, I'll be in Bangkok in a few hours.
Enjoy the pictures and when I get home, I'll make some comments or even add a few more pictures!
December 29 Asia-2008I've now paid the last of my 2008 visits to China. I see from looking at my passport, I've been in China 7 times, Malaysia twice, Vietnam 3 times, Japan twice, Philippines 1 time, plus assorted airport visits to Korea, Taiwan and Thailand.
I noticed a picture from a 1998 visit to Guanzhou, the Haizhu Bridge I think and, next one from this year. You don't see many bicycles anymore.
Happy 2009!
October 15 October, 2008-USA, PRCGreeting from northern China!
I've been busy here in Shenyan (沈阳)(盛京)(奉天)/Mukden/, paying a visit to a faux peasant village while eating some real peasant food. Before that, of course, I sampled some of the excesses that Las Vegas has to offer. I've been lucky enough to look around Shenyang a bit, the zoo, and the Shenyang Imperial Palace (沈阳故宫)a surprisingly nice place, I'll be off to Beijing in a couple of hours, more details to follow from there and enjoy my photographs in the meantime!
I was pretty busy in Beijing, but I did manage to visit the Olympic Stadium. I'm devoting another photo album to my visit there.
September 18 September, 2008I went for an interview in Blaine, Washington for the Nexus pass. Now, I won't have to wait in line anymore...yippee!
Plus, a few pictures from my journey to Victoria.
